Why is teaching a child to cook, the best gift you can ever give them.

Have you ever thought about the fact that we all have to eat, at least three times a day? Everyone has to eat. With child obesity on the rise worldwide, it is however important, what your child eats and what you are allowing them to eat. Then there's the issue of having a picky eater, the list goes on. Research has proven that the chances are much higher that if a child had a part in the making of his lunch, that he will actually eat what is served on that plate.

The fact of the matter is, spending time in the kitchen with your little ones, will not only benefit their self-esteem, instill a bond with you as their parent, because you are spending quality time together, you will be teaching them a skill that they will be able to use for the rest of their lives.

Do you ever take the time to think about the "circle of life?", or have you ever thought to yourself, "wow, time surely does fly,". They are not going to be that size for much longer. After that it's high school and by that time they have no interest in you whatsoever anymore. After school they are out of the house, having to rely and take care of themselves. It happens in the blink of an eye. If you, yourself enjoy cooking, but have a tendency to get frustrated with the little ones interrupting, or making a mess, or just taking too long, why not take a step back, look at the situation and rather give them a carrot to peel, or eggs to break and mix in a bowl. That sense of achievement that, that child feels when being able to successfully achieve a basic skill that we as adults sometimes take for granted, will benefit that child more than the time it will take to clean up the mess afterwards. Not to mention the development of their hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills.

If you don't start living in the moment, chances are your kids will soon grow up and you will have missed numerous opportunities to spend time with them, in such a simple way. It will definitely not be the most expensive option available.
